2009/2010 STAC Fund Scholarship Recipients University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) The STAC Foundation is pleased to present its 2009 Scholarship Winners. This year two Finance majors from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) were selected to receive scholarships. Scholarship recipients are selected by the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dan Passarelli Dan is a senior at The University of Illinois at Chicago pursuing a dual major in Finance and Economics and expects to graduate in June 2011. He has worked as a Trader Trainee Intern for WH Trading LLC and is currently an intern in the operational risk group at Newedge USA LLC. At WH he spent time trading with an arbitrage algorithm and clerking in the Eurodollar options pit. In his current position at Newedge Dan is responsible for checking securities lending positions, determining the cause of trading errors, and making recommendations to prevent future errors. Dan is a member of the UIC Honors College and was named "Rookie of the Year” by the UIC Rugby Club in 2006. He has worked as a writing tutor and studied International Business in Florence, Italy. Upon graduation Dan hopes to find a position in the trading industry. Future education goals include pursuing a master’s degree in Financial Mathematics. Mike Prieto Mike is currently a senior at The University of Illinois at Chicago, where he is pursuing a Finance degree with a minor in Business Statistics. He remains actively involved with student organizations on campus, serving as the portfolio manager and corporate relations officer for UIC’s Finance and Investment Group. As the portfolio manager, he is a part of a team of students that manage the organizations equity portfolio by researching new investment opportunities, determining execution strategies for new asset allocations, monitoring the performance portfolio assets, and soliciting corporate partners for philanthropic funding. In addition to the investment group, Mike gives back to the community by participating in fund raising and food drives for the John Paul Newman Center. He also participates in the Junior Achievement program and Alternate Spring Break, where he will attend a week long service trip to Atlanta, GA to assist at a homeless shelter and retirement home. Mike previously worked at UBS Global Asset Management as a Trade Support and Derivatives intern, where he worked primarily with credit default swaps, interest rate swaps and other financial derivative instruments. In the future, Mike plans on continuing to learn as much as possible about the capital markets, to which he developed a passion for while at UIC. He aspires to gain as much trading experience as possible through working for a well-established company in the finance industry, possibly as a junior trader or quantitative analyst. In his free time, Mike enjoys both watching and playing sports, exercising, reading and hanging out with friends.
