Career Development & Impact

Why did you join STAC?
As someone who is client-facing in my role at Barchart, I joined STAC to build stronger connections within the securities and derivatives trading community in Chicago and to expand my network. The breadth of people to meet and learn from at STAC is invaluable, especially at this stage of my career.

How do you see STAC Young Professionals shaping the careers of students and early-to-mid-level securities professionals?
Young Professionals does a fantastic job of bridging early career talent with more senior professionals. For students, it provides rare real-world experience at a young age, and for entry- and mid- level professionals, it’s an outlet for network building with similarly aged people who may be facing the same set of challenges or working to solidify their positions.

If you could give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?
Soft skills are often more valuable than hard skills. It’s safe to assume most professionals know their craft - what sets you apart is how you connect with others. Friendliness, respect, and genuine relationship-building will carry you further than technical knowledge alone. People want to work with people they like.

Can you share a story about a STAC member whose mentorship made a meaningful difference in your professional journey?
Hanna Droessler has been impactful on my time with STAC, from offering me the opportunity to work with her on Young Professionals to being a friendly face at all events, she is one of my most trusted friends in the industry. At Barchart, I’ve also been fortunate to learn from my team lead and our Global Head of Sales, Mark Wator, who has been an excellent role model. I value his expertise and work ethic greatly.

In what ways has your involvement with STAC enhanced the value you deliver to your organization or clients?
STAC involvement allows me to position myself as a knowledge resource in our space. By engaging with professionals across a range of market functions, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how markets operate and how Barchart’s solutions fit into different workflows. This perspective directly strengthens the value I provide to clients.

Why are STAC’s educational and networking opportunities essential for anyone aiming to grow or advance in this industry?
It’s nearly impossible to advance your career without networking and peer development. STAC makes that process natural by providing both educational and social opportunities. Having access to a diverse sounding board of professionals is invaluable for growth at any stage.

Connection & Community

What’s your favorite STAC event, and what makes it so memorable for you?
I always look forward to the STAC Hockey event each year! I grew up playing (and still play in mens’ league at Johnny’s) so this is such a fun way for me to participate in STAC.

Which STAC member would you recommend newcomers connect with first—and why?
Hanna Droessler - a must-meet for anyone joining, she’s been instrumental in bringing more young faces to our events and is incredibly personable.

Shane Stiles - always at the forefront of industry developments, he’s a great role model and eager to hear fresh perspectives.

Ginny Kowalcyzk - she is incredibly kind and well spoken, and so knowledgeable on equities markets from an exchange perspective.

Beyond STAC, how do you personally give back or make an impact in the Chicago community?
I serve as a mentor to students at DePaul and UIC, and I’m also professionally involved with FISD Rising Stars. Additionally, I volunteer with Breakthrough T1D, Camp FASD, and Camp Kesem.
